I firmly believe in the truth of this quote. One cannot be successful overnight, we must escalate our way up by overcomming obstacles and taking small steps.

Welcome,
My name is Vanessa Alcantar; I am a senior at Lindsay High School. I like to consider myself a very hard
working and opportunistic student. I’m also a person with a great sense of humor, who loves to laugh and make the best out of any situation. It is very easy for me to trust people; I’m usually a confident person and an open book.
I am very ecstatic for my senior year because I have tried so hard to stay on pace, take AP courses and necessary classes not only to graduate but to be accepted into a four year university. It makes me proud to say I will be the first in my family to graduate high school and go on to college. For that reason, I try my best in what I do since I know I am a role model for my younger sibling and younger cousins.
I enjoy being involved in after school activities therefore; I have been a member of the Avid club of 2013 since my freshman year. My junior year, I was vice president of the first ever medical club in our campus. This year will be my second year in M.E.Ch.a Club and National Spanish Honors Society. I am not much of a sports person, but I did join the LHS swimming team my junior and had the time of my life.
I do not only want to be an example in the education area, there other significant things in life, in my case, Church. I attend the Seventh Day Adventist church here in Lindsay and I love to be involved in their activities especially ones that involve working with children. Every year I volunteer for a week long program called Vacation Bible School. Last year after being in the Pathfinder club (similar to girl scouts) for 3 years when I was younger, I decided to volunteer as a leader for the club, it has been one of the best experiences of my life because the young children look up to me and in many occasions said they wanted to be like me. It warms my heart to know that I am helping them create beautiful memories of their childhood. I also had a lot of fun camping with them and showing them things I had learned when I was in the club. I love this club because it teaches children about God, nature and animals, which are all things I love.
My goal is to use all I have done in high school to go off to a four year university like California State University Bakersfield or University of California Merced. I want to major in Psychology and minor in Spanish language. Language interests me greatly. After visiting Japan with the Lindsay/Ono Sister City Program, the Japanese language caught my attention. Not only that. but i have learned to see the world differently. I would love to travel and learn about different cultures and languages. For that reason I want to become Spanish to English translator and work for the government. I believe that in this way I can help and give back to my community and my Hispanic roots because I will be using both languages and being proud of both my roots and the country I grew up in.
