Rhetorical Précis: Definition of Creationism
Columnist, Henry H. Halley, in his essay, “The Call of Abraham”, claims that the origin of the word creationism ties into the history of the term Abrahamic God. He states that the term Abrahamic God comes from the chosen nation that is talked about in the book of Genesis in the bible following the story of creationism. He supports his claim by first quoting a text from Genesis 12:2-3 in the bible that says "Abraham, I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: and I will bless them that bless thee, and curse them that curse thee: and in thee shall all the families of earth be blessed". Then Halley continues to expand on why Abraham was the chosen one from God by expanding his ancestors’ history and also his descendants’history using the bible as a backup for his statements. He then gives a list of the promises God made to Abraham and finally ties them into our society today and what has become of Abrahams descendants.
Halley’s purpose is to explain the origin of creationism, the Abrahamic Religion and the Abrahamic God in order to educate people on each term and giving himself credibility by using the bible.
He establishes an informative tone for those who do not know about Gods promise to Abraham and his descendants.
